Emily Marks grew up in Kew Gardens Hills—a nice neighborhood of middle class houses and neat yards. Except for the derelict house on the corner of Main Street next to the church. Emily Marks grew up in Kew Gardens Hills—a nice neighborhood of middle class houses and neat yards. Except for the derelict house on the corner of Main Street next to the church.
Two badly weathered stories, slats rotting on the wrap-around porch, and the roof hanging by a few shingles in spots, this house was a neighborhood legend. The ghost of its murdered owner roamed its rooms, moaning with the wind on stormy nights. Cold fingers grabbed the living who dared to enter, and closed on their throats. That’s what the high school kids told Emily and her friends.
She was ten, and frightened by the story. But when her friends dared her to join them in breaking to the house…well, only a ten-year-old wussy could turn down such a dare.
Now, seventeen years later, Emily must recount what happened that day and what’s happened to her since. Her life depends on getting a psychiatrist to understand a ghost can attach itself to the living.
